PRODUCTION FAQ’s

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding your theatre experience with Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater, starting with your ticket purchase and walking through your experience at the show.

 

WHAT ARE SEASON TICKETS?
Becoming a Season Ticket Holder is a great way to experience the magic of live theatre with your family. Season ticket holders are able to purchase tickets for all three regular season shows at a discount before our production season begins in October.  Season ticket order forms are sent out starting in July.  If you are not on our mailing list currently, please call the office at 256-539-6829 or send us an email message through the “contact us” button on our website. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BECOMING A SEASON TICKET HOLDER?
Season ticket holders are offered regular season tickets at a discounted price, guaranteed premium seating, enjoy free ticket exchanges and a discount on Academy classes!

 

WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR A SINGLE SHOW?
Individual tickets for regular season shows go on sale 6 weeks before each show opens.  They may be purchased online at our website, by calling 256-539-6829, or stopping by our offices on Long Avenue during weekday office hours (M-F 9am-5pm).  While the show is running, tickets may also be purchased one hour before curtain at the VBC Playhouse house box office. Phone orders are also taken there prior to showtime at 256-551-2335.

WHAT ABOUT A CHRISTMAS CAROL TICKETS?
A Christmas Carol is considered a “Season Extra”.  As such, it is priced separately from the Regular Season productions.  Tickets for A Christmas Carol are available for order with your season ticket order form or may be purchased online or in person at our Long Avenue offices.

 

DO YOU OFFER GROUP DISCOUNTS?
For most productions, we offer discounted tickets for groups of 10 or more.  Please call the office (256-539-6829) to arrange.  Some restrictions may apply.

 

ARE YOUR SHOWS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES?
We at FPCT believe that children as young as three are ready to experience the magic of live theatre!  If your child can comfortably have their attention held for 45 minutes by a movie or storyteller, they are ready to be a part of our audience!  Some themes may be more suitable for older children, so if you are in doubt, please call and ask for more information.

 

WILL ADULTS ENJOY THE PERFORMANCES, TOO?
We at FPCT find that the adults enjoy the performances as much as the children!  Operating as a community theater in an area of the state where professional theater is limited to touring/presenting houses, FPCT has a proven track record of delighting audiences with high-quality productions and first class performances! FPCT utilizes “age-appropriate” casting practices, which means adults play adults (or adult monsters, adult aliens, adult dragons, etc.) and children play children (or elves, trolls, dancing flowers, etc.)…..you get the picture!

 

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AT THE THEATER?
The lobby and theater seating will open approximately 30 minutes before the show begins.  We recommend arriving at 30 minutes before the show begins to allow enough time to park, walk, and pick up tickets at the “will call” window, etc. We also recommend making time for last minute potty stops if you are accompanying “littles” to the show.

 

HOW LONG DO SHOWS LAST?
Running times for most shows are between 90 and 120 minutes, including a 15 minute intermission.  We recommend you allow extra time in your schedule for your children to meet the cast in the lobby after the performance, pose for pictures, and collect autographs!  For some, it’s the most important part of the FPCT experience and we promise it will be a memory-maker for you and your family!

DO YOU OFFER STUDENT MATINEE PERFORMANCES?
FPCT daytime student matinees serve 2400 children annually from the North Alabama public, private, and homeschool sectors and include study guides for teachers to tie the production to their classroom lessons. Tickets are available for $7 each for school groups.  Email schoolshows@fantasyplayhouse.com for reservation information.

 

WHERE DO I PARK?
The VBC lot directly in front of the VBC Playhouse is considered Platinum Parking and costs $10 per vehicle. The other VBC lots at South Hall and in front of the Concert Hall on Monroe Street are $7.  The City lots on Monroe Street and at Meadowgold on Clinton Street are $5. If you are up for walking and have the time, free on the street parking may be found in the area.  Our best advice is to allow yourself time as there are often many events happening at the VBC at the same time. WILL THERE BE CONCESSIONS AVAILABLE AT THE THEATER?
The VBC does offer a concession stand in the lobby of the Playhouse, but please note that food and drinks are not allowed in the theater during the performance.  FPCT also operates a merchandise booth during performances where you may purchase an FPCT souvenir to take home.

 

IF I CANNOT ATTEND THE SHOW, CAN I GET A REFUND?
We do not offer refunds on tickets. Season ticket holders can exchange their tickets free of charge, or donate their tickets back to the theatre for a tax-deductible donation, prior to their performance. Single ticket buyers may exchange their tickets prior to their performance for $5 per transaction. Please note: we do need to have tickets in hand to complete the exchange, so it’s best to call the office at 256-539-6829 as soon as you realize you have a scheduling conflict.

 

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I’VE MISPLACED MY TICKETS?
If you lose or misplace your tickets, please call our offices on Long Avenue (M-F 9am-5pm) at 256-539-6829 before your performance date and we will be happy to provide replacements. Replacement tickets will be mailed to you, picked up at our Long Avenue office before the day of the show or held at the VBC Playhouse box office “will call” window to be picked up prior to the performance.

 

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE THEATRE?
We do not have an official dress code; however we would encourage comfortable, smart casual wear. We also recommend you bring a sweater in case you find the theater chilly.

 

IS THE THEATRE WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
The VBC Playhouse is ADA Compliant, however the majority of seats require patrons to be able to navigate stairs. If you use a walker, wheelchair or crutches, limited floor seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Please call 256-539-6829 to purchase those seats and we will be happy to help you.

 

CAN I TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS OR RECORD THE SHOW?
No photography or recording is permitted during the performance. You are welcome to take pics after the show in the lobby with our actors.

 

WHAT IF I AM LATE FOR THE SHOW?
The theatre is open 30 minutes prior to each performance. Please allow ample time for driving, dining, and parking when attending your performance. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of management in order to prevent a disruption of performance already in progress. In most cases, if you are late you will be asked to sit in the first available seat until intermission. After intermission, latecomers can claim their original seats. Please arrive on time.

 

HOW DO I BECOME A VOLUNTEER USHER?

HOW CAN I MEET THE ACTORS?
This is easy!!  Exit the theater after the performance and you will find the acting company waiting to meet you, pose for pictures, and sign the back of your programs!  It’s all part of the magic of experiencing an FPCT production.

WHAT’S UP WITH THE THOSE JESTERS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOW?
Fantasy and Fantasy Jr. are our FPCT mascots.  They have the special assignment of engaging audiences at the top of each regular season production.  Sometimes they give our youngest audience members a sneak peek at what they will experience on stage during the show and they always invite us to count down at the beginning of each show: “1,2,3…Let the magic begin!” and at intermission: “1,2,3…Let the magic continue!”

CAN I BE PART OF AN FPCT PRODUCTION?
You bet!  Each FPCT production can require up to 200 or 300 volunteers, both onstage and off. FPCT provides opportunities for area artists by engaging volunteer costume designers, craftsmen, scenic artists, musicians, make up/hair designers, and actors. If you are interested in joining us in a technical capacity send us a message here (Contact us link).  If joining us onstage is more your style, we want to see you at auditions!  Children and adults from all walks of life are invited to attend age-appropriate auditions for all FPCT shows. FPCT opportunities are open to everyone and no fees are ever charged to be involved. Non-traditional casting reflecting the makeup of the Tennessee Valley’s rich diversity is sought in each production.
